NHS blood pressure checks

The NHS hypertension service helps to detect early cases of high blood pressure.

What is high blood pressure (Hypertension)?

High blood pressure is medically referred to as Hypertension – a serious condition which causes your heart to work harder to pump blood around your body. This can cause heart attack, circulatory disease and stroke.

Who’s eligible for the Hypertension service?

Our pharmacist will be able to advise if you are eligible for the NHS Hypertension service. Patients eligible for this service include:

• If you are aged 40 years or older and you do not currently have a diagnosis of hypertension.
• If you are under 40 and have a recognised family history of hypertension.*
• If you have been referred by your GP for the measurement of blood pressure.

* Our pharmacist will be able to advise if you fall into this category.

How will this service help me?

The NHS Hypertension service will help you to find if your blood pressure is in the low, normal or high category. The results can be used to help you find ways to manage your blood pressure, to control or improve your condition.
